Big Summer Read

Big Summer Read

Over the summer holidays, it's not uncommon for children to experience what is known as 'the summer slide', where inattention to reading results in a decline in reading skills.

The Big Summer Read is a state-wide reading program aimed at primary school age children, but is also open to children in kinder. The program encourages children to keep reading over the summer holidays and return to school having kept up with their reading.

Children must be registered at their preferred branch of Monash Public Library Service to receive their reading log and activity booklet.

From 1 December until 31 January children must record everything they read, or that is read to them, and complete at least five challenges from the activity booklet.

Participating children need to return their reading logs and activity booklet by or before 31 January to earn stickers and other rewards.

While we believe that every child who reads is a winner, those who participate in the Big Summer Read may also win great prizes!

Register from Monday 29 November and be ready to record your reading from Wednesday 1 December!
