A site next to a busy shared pathway in Holmesglen has been transformed into a vibrant community space with the help of a Public Safety Infrastructure Fund (PSIF) grant.

Monash Council was awarded a $250,000 PSIF grant in 2015-16 to address a number of public safety issues at a site on Warrigal Road in Holmesglen.

Council also contributed $283,000 to the project.

Located between a popular shopping strip and rail line linking to Holmesglen Station, the site was regularly targeted by graffiti and vandalism, had poor lighting and sightlines and low perceptions of safety.

Working closely with Victoria Police, Monash Council applied Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) measures to transform and activate the area which is now a vibrant community space.
