Media Response Glen Waverley Business

Questions and Responses

I'm looking at doing an update on trade and the coronavirus impact at The Glen. I was just wondering if there are any council initiatives or anything in the pipeworks as ways of getting shoppers/diners back to The Glen? For example, Whitehorse Council is running free-parking in the vicinity of Box Hill Central on Saturdays across March and April.

It’s great to see that people are heeding the messages that Glen Waverley, and Monash, are open for business and there is no reason to stay away, and that people are returning to enjoy the great dining and shopping in this precinct.

A few weeks ago I dined at the House of Delight in Glen Waverley with a group including Mount Waverley MP Matt Fregon and Oakleigh MP Steve Dimopoulos. It was a privilege to be invited by to this lunch by Minister for Health Jenny Mikakos and show support to our local businesses and Chinese community who are having a tough time due to the impacts of the coronavirus.

We’re aware of a great social media campaign too #Iwilleatwithyou that encourages people to get out and visit their favourite Chinese restaurants, or discover new ones, and we are encouraging our community to support this.

We are already the only municipality in the region that does not require people to pay for parking and this is a great incentive to come to Glen Waverley, enjoy our fantastic and diverse cafes and restaurants, shop in our local shopping strip or at The Glen and support our traders.

Over the next few weeks, we will be installing new colourful and striking flags for Kingsway and we continue to explore through our Economic Development department how we market and promote activity centres and business in general.
