Media Response Leader - Magpie season in Monash

Native birds and their habitat are protected, so Council works to educate residents about the breeding season, which starts around September. If needed, we install temporary signs explaining why birds such as magpies swoop (to protect their young) and how people can keep themselves safe.

In recent years we have produced some material with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) that contains factual information and tips about bird breeding season. For more information and tips on how to protect yourself against swooping birds, visit: Swooping Season
