Council is aware that the Government could be considering more planning changes but we do not have any specifics. We are not supportive of changes that remove decision making from Council on behalf of the community, and where community participation including the right of objection and appeal are removed. Council stood firm and advocated to Government on this a number of years ago when the State Government sold disused school sites and removed residents from the formal process, allowing their concerns to be considered only by Council and not the ability to participate in the full process.
As with any significant change we would expect that the Government would consult with Councils and consider our views before making any changes.
