Monash establishes soft plastics drop-off point for residents

Monash Council has established a drop-off point for soft plastics at the Monash Civic Centre on 293 Springvale Road, Glen Waverley.

The Civic Centre drop-off point is for Monash residents only and is open Monday-Friday, 8.30am-5pm.

Due to capacity, the site can only accept a limited amount of household soft plastics a day. Our full soft plastics collection point for Monash residents is at Monash Recycling and Waste Centre at 380 Ferntree Gully Road, Notting Hill.

What kind of soft plastics are accepted?

A good test is if you can scrunch it into a ball then it can be placed in soft plastic recycling.

Some of the soft plastics you can drop off include:

  • Plastic bags
  • Plastic film
  • Plastic wrap
  • Chip wrappers
  • Cereal liners
  • Bread bags
  • Lolly wrappers
  • Frozen food bags.

How much can I drop off?

Due to the small scale of the drop-off point, there is a limit of 1 bag of household soft plastics per visit.

For larger quantities of household soft plastics, please visit Monash Recycling and Waste Centre at 380 Ferntree Gully Road, Notting Hill.

When can I drop off soft plastics?

Monash Civic Centre’s opening hours are Monday - Friday, 8.30am - 5pm.

Do I need to clean the soft plastics?

Soft plastics should be free from food or other materials to avoid contaminating the rest of the collected items.

How often will this drop-off point be collected?

We intend to collect the soft plastics daily.

What will happen to the soft plastics?

They will be taken to the Monash Recycling and Waste Centre, where it will be collected by APR Plastics who will then recycle them.
