Scammers impersonating Council workers

Scam alert

Council has recently been made aware of a resident who was visited at home by a man claiming to be from Council and wanting to install door seals in the resident’s home.

He requested personal details from the resident’s wife.

Council does not undertake this type of work.

If someone visits you at home and identifies as a Council worker, they should provide you with identification. You can call us on 9518 3555 to check their identification.

Scamwatch, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s (ACCC) scam watchdog, reports that scammers target both individuals and businesses through a variety of scams including: Impersonating government or superannuation authorities and online shopping scams.

You can protect yourself by never, under any circumstance, providing your personal, banking or superannuation details to strangers who have approached you either via text messaging, emails, mail, telephone or in person. This includes providing your phone number.
