People Counters

Knowing the number of people travelling through major City of Monash precincts allows for a greater understanding of current trends and helps Council understand the future priorities for these precincts.

By measuring how many people pass through targeted areas, we can assess potential business and community impacts due to planned construction, development, or maintenance activities.

For example, People Counters will help us to better understand the impact to the community of the 10-year construction of the Suburban Rail Loop and the changes taking place across three major precincts, and to work with the community on supporting them through the changes.

So far, we have installed 13 people counters on Kingsway and Clayton Road, as well as another 3 people counters at the entrances to the Clayton Community Centre. Further people counters are being considered for reserves.
