Footpath Trading & Outdoor Advertising

Footpath trading

Footpath Trading

Council is committed to supporting retail traders in creating a dynamic and pleasant streetscape atmosphere.

It allows for outdoor dining including tables and chairs, screens, umbrellas, display of goods and temporary advertising signs on public streets.

The policy requires footpath trading to be on the kerbside of the footpath. This allows the front of the shops to act as a shoreline by providing pedestrian-friendly access to all people and is consistent with the policies of many other Victorian councils.

Parklets

Council adopted the Parklets on Roads Policy at its 28 February 2023 meeting.

The Policy supports eligible hospitality businesses to offer outdoor dining in locations that are ordinarily used as car parking spaces. This policy complements Council’s Footpath Trading and Access Policy.
