Australian Chinese Disability Association

Original-on-Transparent

Australian Chinese Disability Association (ACDA) is a national, not–for–profit organisation supporting disabled people in Australia. We provide practical support and guidance on access to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) for disabled Australian Chinese and their families.

Currently the support structures for disabled Australian Chinese have remained state or community based and have not evolved to engage the national NDIS framework that was introduced by the Australian Government. With low take-up and engagement of support services by disabled Australian Chinese and their families compared to the general community, the ACDA provides a national body for all disabled Australian Chinese and their families to completely engage with all supports and services available to them under the NDIS. To this end, the ACDA will build and maintain a comprehensive web-based information service in both Chinese and English covering the NDIS and supports available, guidance on how and where to gain access to supports, and aggregated listings of Australian Chinese state-based and community support services that are available.

An aim of the ACDA is to provide support to disabled Australian Chinese and their families especially in areas that will help reduce the stigma that exists having a disabled family member which contributes to under-utilisation of services.
