Upgrades to concrete roads in Mount Waverley

  • Project typeRoads, footpaths and car parks
  • Project value$1.8 million

In 2016 and early 2017, Mount Waverley's historical concrete roads were reconstructed.

The concrete roads are a feature of Mount Waverley and are of historical significance, having been constructed around 1929-1930.

The aim was to reconstruct these streets in a similar way to the original construction, maintaining the look and feel of the neighbourhood. This approach was supported by local residents who were consulted as part of planning for the project.

The road upgrades were funded by the Federal Government, with support from Council. The first stage (undertaken in early 2016) included sections of Pall Mall, Beverley Grove, Winbourne Road, Woodstock Road and Virginia Street. It cost about $1 million.

The second stage included sections of: Sherwood Road (between Woodstock and Stephensons roads), Park Lane (between Sherwood Road and 23/24 Park Lane) and Woodstock Road (between Virginia Street and Sherwood Road). This stage cost about $800,000 and was completed in early 2017.

The kerb and channel along these roads was upgraded in the 1990s and is in good condition, so was not upgraded as part of these works.
