Construction of the $26.7million Monash Tennis Centre in the Glen Waverley Sports Hub has started with Monash Council awarding the construction tender to Commercial Industrial Construction Group (CICG).

It is expected that the centre will be completed and ready for play in early 2024.

In a joint partnership with Monash Council, the State Government is investing $21 million in the new tennis and golf precinct to keep local sports clubs thriving as it builds North-East Link.

When completed, the facility will feature a regional level tennis facility with 18 courts, including 2 show courts, golf practice facilities, public open space improvements, car parking, a pavilion, cafe and supporting infrastructure.

Media release September 2022: Construction starts in Glen Waverley Sports Hub

Waverley Road, Jells Road intersection

As part of the Glen Waverley Sports Hub project, we upgraded the intersection of Waverley Road and Jells Road in Glen Waverley.

The intersection upgrade is to cater for the safe movement and operation of increased traffic as a result of the sports hub, especially during peak periods.

The upgrade included: installation and commissioning of traffic signals; civil works, including road and pedestrian pavements and modifications; asphalt works; line marking and signage; tree removal and minor landscape works; traffic and pedestrian management during construction.

The Department of Transport, which controls the intersection, approved the activation of the traffic signals at the intersection and it has been operational since January 2023.

Glen Waverley Sports Hub on-site construction

Over the summer of 2022-23, work steadily progressed on the new tennis centre/multisport pavilion development at Council’s  Glen Waverley Sports Hub.

The Golf Course pro-shop and facilities were relocated to temporary facilities next to the first tee while, following wet weather delays in November and December 2022, the temporary car park was completed and is now operational. The existing pro-shop, golf clubhouse and amenities block were demolished.

The project continued to take shape over autumn and winter 2023.

The earth works, civil drainage and underground utilities are now well advanced while construction and foundation works are being undertaken for the tennis courts and multi-sport pavilion.

From July 2023 onwards, we’ll see the import and placement of crushed rock to the tennis courts progressing; external light steel framework of the main pavilion continuing and the commencement of the roofing works.

Heavy rain caused some delays to sub-base construction of the tennis courts, but the project remains on track and on budget and is planned to be completed and open for play in early 2024.
