The Pinewood Child and Family Hub, incorporating the redevelopment of Pinewood Kindergarten and Maternal and Child Health Centre (Pinewood Drive, Mount Waverley) was completed in February 2023.
Council has demonstrated its strong commitment to improving the accessibility and quality of early childhood services in Monash and this will continue with the construction of a new, integrated child and family centre at the current Pinewood venue.
The new Pinewood Child and Family Hub offers beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces, including two kindergarten rooms, a three-room Maternal and Child Health service and a community playgroup area in a state-of-the-art facility.
The Hub will also cater for the State Government’s extension to the funded kindergarten program to include funded kindergarten for three-year-old children.
The State Government contributed $2 million towards the project.
Council and Pinewood Kindergarten worked closely together to ensure a smooth transition for children and families during the construction period. The children and educators at Pinewood Kindergarten have assisted greatly in designing the indoor and outdoor play space for the new building.
The outdoor learning area and public spaces have been designed around significant trees to be enjoyed by both the kindergarten children and the community.
The new facility frees up a large amount of green open space fronting Pinewood Drive that will be improved for the use of all the community for passive recreation. This space will be landscaped and will retain existing mature trees, planting of new trees and tables and benches will be added.
