Council regularly upgrades public toilets to make sure they are user-friendly and comfortable for the community to use.

Council has adopted the Public Toilet Strategy at its 26 October 2021 meeting.

Some public toilets we have upgraded include:

Galbally Reserve

The upgraded playspace at Galbally Reserve was opened in June 2019 with combined funding from Council and the Level Crossing Removal Authority creating a project that maximises play value and community gathering spaces for the community of Hughesdale. There had been several community requests for a public toilet during the playground consultation and once the playground was opened.

We have now opened a new DDA-compliant accessible public toilet and ambulant toilet on the site with accessible pathways adjoining the new playspaces.

An upgraded public toilet opened in Chester Street, Oakleigh in October 2016.

The existing toilet block was removed and replaced after it was discovered that the foundation and other supporting structures were in poor condition.

The works involved the installation of new walls and roof, new toilet suites (including accessible toilets), sustainable lighting, landscaping works and the use of water saving initiatives.

Hamilton place toilet

A new unisex public toilet has been installed at Mount Waverley Village, Hamilton Place.

The toilet opened for public use in August 2015. It is located in the car park, west of the IGA supermarket and close to the taxi rank.

Two historical local images (see below) have been placed on the sides of the toilet. The Waverley Historical Society, Monash Libraries and Council have worked together on this project, bringing history to life.
