Expression of Interest – Senshi Karate: Learn Karate Based Self-Defence, Improve Fitness, Increase Confidence and Have Fun Doing It!

Active Monash invited Expressions of Interest (EOI) from residents aged 16 and above within the City of Monash, interested in being part of our upcoming partnership with Senshi Karate School. This four-week program will provide residents with the skills and confidence to participate their way.

This program is proudly sponsored by Active Communities and Monash Council.

Expressions of Interest are now closed and were sought between Friday 1 - Sunday 31 July 2022.

What is Active Communities?

Active Communities is the community activation arm of Active Monash, providing inclusive and sustainable pathways for the community to be more physically active in both structured and unstructured ways.

The program supports Council's priorities for enhancing the health, happiness and well-being of Monash community members; by offering increased opportunities for the community to participate in more physical activity, more often.

What is Senshi Karate?

Senshi Karate School has been part of the Glen Waverley community for close to a decade, providing classes for all ages and abilities in a safe and professional training environment.

Led by Sensei Mark Richardson, 4th Dan, all instructors are qualified adult karate practitioners with all appropriate qualifications (First Aid, Working with Children’s Check). Senshi Karate School has developed National Champions and Australian and Victorian Representatives, along with many outstanding students who compete at tournaments throughout the year.

All classes will teach you or your children potentially life-saving self-defence skills, help increase flexibility and balance, improve strength, speed, and agility. Confidence increases as you master progressively more difficult challenges, improving your overall fitness and energy. Through Karate you will enjoy more confidence, mental focus, and discipline in all areas of your life.

What’s Involved

A FREE four-week trial offer throughout August 2022 was available for the following age groups.

Ninjas (4 – 8 years) - bookings closed

Specifically designed to engage four to eight-year-olds, this program employs skill-based activities to help develop coordination and movement, along with basic age-appropriate self-defence and karate techniques. The most powerful skills taught are those of resilience, self-control, respect for self and others and a positive mental attitude.

Juniors (9 – 15 years) - bookings closed

This program enables 9 to 15-year-olds to be their best. Students are progressively trained to handle more difficult skills and challenges in a fun, supportive and engaging environment. A strict code of behaviour focusing on discipline, respect, dedication, and confidence leads to a self-mastery and resilience which can empower students for life.

Adults (16+) - bookings closed

11am – 11.45am

You are never too old for karate! This program is tailored to your age and physical condition. Training with others at your level gives you the opportunity to achieve your optimum level of skill and fitness. Whether you simply want to strengthen your mind and body, learn some self-defence, or achieve a black belt, our instructors will help you achieve your goals and more!
