Reminiscence kits

What is a reminiscence kit?
A reminiscence kit is a collection of meaningful objects designed to prompt memories and conversation about a person’s past. It is commonly used with older adults, especially those living with dementia or memory loss, but can also support anyone experiencing loneliness, cognitive changes, or emotional distress.
How is a reminiscence kit used?
To use a reminiscence kit, items related to familiar life experiences such as childhood, work, hobbies, or significant life events, are explored together with a carer, family member, or group. The kit contains a set of questions to assist the caregiver, however the caregiver is not limited to the questions provided. The goal is not to test memory, but to spark enjoyable recall, encourage storytelling, and support emotional wellbeing through positive, familiar cues.
Reminiscence kits are now available for adults to borrow FREE with their library membership for a two-week loan period and are part of the Library of Things special collections.
