A new chapter has begun with early works underway for Council’s $110 million Glen Waverley Civic Precinct Project, an exciting investment that will transform the heart of Glen Waverley.
The project will deliver a brand‑new, state‑of‑the‑art Glen Waverley Library, designed with modern and flexible shared spaces to support learning, creativity and community connection.
During construction, and to ensure Council can continue to deliver what will be reduced, but essential, library services to our community, we have established temporary library sites at:
We know temporarily relocating our Glen Waverley Library will cause some disruption, but we are committed to keeping our members and library users up to date as works progress.
It is an exciting time as we work together to deliver a bigger, better library for the Glen Waverley community.
Our library services and community spaces are adapting to a growing Glen Waverley community.
Council's $110 million Glen Waverley Civic Precinct Project will not only deliver a brand‑new, state‑of‑the‑art library; it will transform the heart of Glen Waverley.
The new precinct will provide library facilities that offer new modern shared spaces designed to support learning, creativity, and community connection, and a 500-seat civic hall and community events space for Council to host events like citizenship ceremonies, larger gatherings or community group meetings.
Glen Waverley Library temporarily closed on Monday 8 June.
Library items can now be returned to another branch, or to our new temporary library sites:
Glen Waverley Library Express, 173 Coleman Parade, Glen Waverley
Glen Waverley Children’s Library - Black Flat Community Hall, 685 Waverley Road, Glen Waverley
We look forward to opening a bigger, better Glen Waverley Library in 2028.
A large part of our collection has been placed into storage until the library reopens in 2028.
A reduced adult collection will be relocated to Glen Waverley Library Express.
The children’s collection will be relocated to Glen Waverley Children’s Library.
Collections at our temporary library sites will be periodically refreshed.
Some smaller language and niche collections will be relocated to other branches:

The following Glen Waverley Library programs will relocate:
Students will need to plan alternate study spaces during the temporary closure of Glen Waverley Library - from 8 June 2026 until the library reopens in 2028.
Council continues to support students with study spaces available at:
Two temporary library sites are operating at:
Glen Waverley Library Express (173 Coleman Parade, Glen Waverley) - OPEN NOW
Glen Waverley Children’s Library (Black Flat Community Hall, 685 Waverley Road, Glen Waverley) - OPEN ON 14 JULY
Temporary library sites will allow Council to continue to provide reduced, but essential library services to support our community, including our most vulnerable members and users.
Shaped by community use and feedback, our new library will deliver a larger, more functional space that balances study and quiet learning with opportunities for community creativity and connection.
This includes dedicated quiet study zones, flexible seating arrangements, and technology-enabled spaces to support students, lifelong learners, and community groups.
Maker spaces, digital access zones, and sound studios are incorporated to foster creativity and innovation.
A dedicated children’s area will feature an amphitheatre style layout, reading nooks, and direct access to outdoor play spaces, supporting family-friendly experiences and encouraging curiosity.
The new Glen Waverley Library will recall its collection from storage and will be topped up before reopening in 2028.
A special opening day collection will be curated for the community to celebrate this milestone.
Upon completion, the new facility will maintain the existing 117 public car parking spaces, with 79 basement spaces allocated for longer stays and 38 short‐term spaces, along with accessible parking, EV charging and bicycle parking.
Our nearby Bogong Avenue Car Park also provides over 1,000 parking spaces within a five-minute walk of the library.
Koi Table is an important part of Council's public art collection and will be re-positioned once the construction of the new library is complete. The table will not be available during construction.
If you have a reserved item that you were unable to collect before the Glen Waverley closed, they will be available to collect from Glen Waverley Library Express.
If your reserved item is not yet available for collection and you wish to change the collection location from Glen Waverley Library to another branch, you can do so via the library app, or by logging into your library account on our website, or by phoning the library.
