Temporary library site Glen Waverley Children's Library to open on 14 July.

A new chapter has begun with early works underway for Council’s $110 million Glen Waverley Civic Precinct Project, an exciting investment that will transform the heart of Glen Waverley.

The project will deliver a brand‑new, state‑of‑the‑art Glen Waverley Library, designed with modern and flexible shared spaces to support learning, creativity and community connection.

During construction, and to ensure Council can continue to deliver what will be reduced, but essential, library services to our community, we have established temporary library sites at:

We know temporarily relocating our Glen Waverley Library will cause some disruption, but we are committed to keeping our members and library users up to date as works progress.

It is an exciting time as we work together to deliver a bigger, better library for the Glen Waverley community.

Frequently asked questions

Why are we rebuilding Glen Waverley Library?

Our library services and community spaces are adapting to a growing Glen Waverley community.

Council's $110 million Glen Waverley Civic Precinct Project will not only deliver a brand‑new, state‑of‑the‑art library; it will transform the heart of Glen Waverley.

The new precinct will provide library facilities that offer new modern shared spaces designed to support learning, creativity, and community connection, and a 500-seat civic hall and community events space for Council to host events like citizenship ceremonies, larger gatherings or community group meetings.

Council continues to support students with study spaces available at:

  • Mount Waverley Library - provides dedicated bookable study spaces located just two train stops (five-minutes) from Glen Waverley station.
  • Monash Youth Services - available study spaces (limited) and a supervised afterschool safe space for 12–18-year-olds on Tuesdays 3pm – 6pm at Level 1 Euneva Avenue, Glen Waverley. Expressions of interest are required as spaces are limited.

Why are we building temporary sites?

Temporary library sites will allow Council to continue to provide reduced, but essential library services to support our community, including our most vulnerable members and users.

What will the new library be like when it opens?

Shaped by community use and feedback, our new library will deliver a larger, more functional space that balances study and quiet learning with opportunities for community creativity and connection.

This includes dedicated quiet study zones, flexible seating arrangements, and technology-enabled spaces to support students, lifelong learners, and community groups.

Maker spaces, digital access zones, and sound studios are incorporated to foster creativity and innovation.

A dedicated children’s area will feature an amphitheatre style layout, reading nooks, and direct access to outdoor play spaces, supporting family-friendly experiences and encouraging curiosity.

Will the library collection be refreshed?

The new Glen Waverley Library will recall its collection from storage and will be topped up before reopening in 2028

A special opening day collection will be curated for the community to celebrate this milestone.

What will happen to existing library parking?

Upon completion, the new facility will maintain the existing 117 public car parking spaces, with 79 basement spaces allocated for longer stays and 38 short‐term spaces, along with accessible parking, EV charging and bicycle parking.

Our nearby Bogong Avenue Car Park also provides over 1,000 parking spaces within a five-minute walk of the library.

What will happen to the outdoor table tennis table (Koi Table)?

Koi Table is an important part of Council's public art collection and will be re-positioned once the construction of the new library is complete. The table will not be available during construction.
