Comic Book Competition Terms and Conditions

Terms and Conditions:
1. This competition opens on Monday 7 July 2025 at 9am and closes on Friday 18 July 2025 at 5pm.
2. This competition is open to entrants living in Victoria, Australia, who are able to meet the terms and conditions of entry.
3. The terms and conditions of this competition are governed by the laws of the State of Victoria, Australia.
4. This competition is being run by Monash City Council, 293 Springvale Road, Glen Waverley VIC 3150.
5. Employees of Monash City Council and their immediate family members are ineligible for entry.
6. The age eligibility for entrants is 6-18 years of age (inclusive).
7. There are four categories for entry:
a. Category A: 6-8 years
b. Category B: 9-11 years
c. Category C: 12-14 years
d. Category D: 15-18 years
8. Entry is free.
9. Entries must be submitted on or between Monday 7 July 2025 from 9am and Friday 18 July 2025 no later than 5pm.
10. A valid entry for categories A and B is an original comic book created by the submitting author that is no more than six pages in length OR a comic strip of a minimum of three panels not exceeding six pages in total.
11. A valid entry for categories C and D is an original comic or manga book created by the submitting author that is no more than six pages in length.
12. Entries can be submitted either on physical paper or as a digital file.
13. Paper entries can be submitted to the competition at any branch of Monash Public Library Service.

14. Paper entries will not be returned to the submitting author after the competition is complete. Entrants should keep a copy of the original work if they wish to retain it.
15. Digital entries can be submitted to the competition via the email address askmonlib@monash.vic.gov.au
16. Digital entries can be submitted as either of the following file formats:
a. PDF
b. JPG
c.PNG
17. Only one entry per submitting author is permitted.
18. Once an entry is submitted it cannot be withdrawn or replaced.
19. Once an entry is first submitted, additional entries will be disqualified.
20. Comic books submitted into the competition must not contain language or scenes that are offensive, or likely to be considered offensive by a reasonable person.
21. Comic books can be about any subject, providing they meet the criteria of the previous condition (16).
22. Submissions must not contain the author’s name or personal details.
23. The author’s name and personal details must only be provided on the entry form that accompanies the competition entry.
24. Entry forms will be available in both print and digital formats.

25. Submissions that do not meet one or more of the terms and conditions of entry will be disqualified.
26. By submitting an entry into the Comic Book Competition entrants give Monash Public Library Service permission to reproduce, publish, and/or post photos and/or videos of their entry to other online platforms including but not limited to Instagram, Facebook, and the Monash Public Library Service website.
27. Judging will take place in the week-fortnight beginning Monday 21 July at Wheelers Hill Library.
28. Entries will be judged on the following criteria:
a. Overall quality of the story
b. Originality
c. Creativity
d. Use of illustrations to support and tell the story
29. Judging will be undertaken by a panel of Monash Public Library Service staff.
30. The decision of the judging panel is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
31. For each of the four categories there will be two prizes awarded:
a. First place
b. Second place
32. The prize for first place of all categories is a Readings voucher valued at $50.
33. The prize for second place for all categories is a comic book that is age appropriate to the age category to which it is awarded.
34. The parent whose contact details are included on the entry form will be contacted by phone or email if their child wins a prize, as soon as all judging is finalised.
35. After the winners have been contacted, winners will be announced on:
a. The library website: www.monlib.vic.gov.au/comic-con
b. Library social media (Facebook and Instagram): @monashlibraries
c. In a physical display of the winning entries located at Wheelers Hill Library
36. Only the first names of the children who win prizes will be made public in the library display.
37. No personal details of the winners will be published online.
38. Prizes can be collected in person from:
