What can I borrow?

Up to 10 reservations using the contactless Click and Collect service from 16 September:

  • Total of 30 items on your library card account 
  • Books(including Large Print format, and in languages other than English) and Audiobooks
  • DVDs and CDs (including blockbuster films, TV series and documentaries)
  • CDs
  • Magazines (print and digital)
  • Language kits
  • Language test preparation materials (print and digital)
  • DAISY players
  • PowerMate portable power meters
  • eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines are available through our eLibrary
  • If you have an overdue item you will not be able to borrow. 
  • From 1 July we are removing overdue fees and waiving historical overdue charges.

 

How long can I keep it for?

  • Books, magazines, audiobooks, language kits, Daisy players: 28 days
  • DVDs, CDs, CD ROMs: 28 days
  • BorrowBox eBooks & eAudiobooks: 21 days
  • PowerMate portable power meters: 28 days
  • Loan due dates have been extended owing to library closure

Can I renew items?

You can renew most loans twice, as long as no other library member has reserved them.

Auto-renewals are now active. Items are renewed 2 days before their due date, however please check your account to see what could not be auto-renewed.

You can renew your items in several ways. (If items are overdue, you will not be able to renew online.)

  • Login to your library account on the library catalogue page. You need your card and a passcode (PIN).
  • You can now change your passcode via the reset your password link.
  • Visit your nearest library (remember to bring your library card or some identification with you).
  • Phone any of our branch libraries. Please have your library card number ready.
  • Through the links in reminder emails that we send you if you request this service.

Where can I return my loans?

  • After hours returns chutes will re-open Monday 14 September
  • You don't need to return them to the branch library you originally borrowed from.
  • All branch libraries except Mulgrave Library offer overnight chutes

What if you don't have the item I want?

  • Ask us using our Request an Item form.
  • Inter-library loan requests have been suspended.

 

RFID

The Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system allows library members to borrow items themselves including CDs and DVDs. Multiple items can be loaned or returned at the one time, reducing the need for staff to individually scan each item.

We have introduced this technology to improve customer service by enabling self service. Our great branch staff service is always available to assist those who need help tracking down items or researching information.
