Ask. Listen. Believe: Unpacking coercive control

Jess Hill - journalist, author, educator

Family violence doesn't always involve physical or sexual abuse. People use a wide range of abusive behaviours to maintain power and control in relationships.

This free online event on May 9 2024 with renowned journalist, author and educator Jess Hill was part of this year’s Are You Safe at Home? Day campaign.

The session was opened by Tania Farha, CEO of Safe and Equal, followed by a keynote address from Jess Hill, and then a Q&A.

This session covered:

  • What is Are You Safe At Home? Day and why is it important?
  • Understanding coercive control
  • How coercive control presents in different environments
  • Strategies to ask someone ‘are you safe at home?’ and what to do if they tell you they aren’t.

The recording of the webinar is available until 7 June 2024. If you would like to watch the recording, please email elena.leddra@monash.vic.gov.au
