Located just 20km south-east of Melbourne’s CBD, the City of Monash cover 81.5 square kilometres and includes the following suburbs: Ashwood, Clayton, Glen Waverley, Hughesdale, Huntingdale, Mount Waverley, Mulgrave, Notting Hill, Oakleigh, Oakleigh East, and Wheelers Hill. Parts of Chadstone, Burwood and Oakleigh South are also included in Monash.

The Monash National Employment and Innovation Cluster (MNEIC), a precinct in the areas of Clayton and Huntingdale supports approximately 75,000 jobs across a diverse range of industries and contributes over $9.4 billion to the Victorian economy each year. It is anticipated that employment numbers within the Monash Cluster have the potential to double over the next three decades. 

The Clayton Health and Education Research Precinct encompasses the major institutions of Monash University and Business Centre, Monash Medical Centre (recognised in Plan Melbourne as Victoria’s first health precinct), Monash Children’s Hospital, CSIRO’s largest site, and the Australian Synchrotron.  It is also the site for the construction of the new Victorian Heart Hospital.

The City of Monash is home to major and local activity centres, including the principal shopping hub in Glen Waverley (Kingsway strip and The Glen shopping centre) and major activity centres (Brandon Park, Oakleigh and Mount Waverley). It also is home to vibrant neighbourhood shopping and dining areas, including the Clayton and Huntingdale retail areas, Pinewood Shopping Centre, Syndal Village and the Wheelers Hill shopping centre.

There are a total of 72 activity centres incorporating shopping areas of all sizes across Monash.

There are several active trader groups in Monash who represent the interests of traders in their area.
