Waverley Road, Jells Road intersection

As part of the Glen Waverley Sports Hub project, we upgraded the intersection of Waverley Road and Jells Road in Glen Waverley.

The intersection upgrade is to cater for the safe movement and operation of increased traffic as a result of the sports hub, especially during peak periods.

The upgrade included: installation and commissioning of traffic signals; civil works, including road and pedestrian pavements and modifications; asphalt works; line marking and signage; tree removal and minor landscape works; traffic and pedestrian management during construction.

The Department of Transport, which controls the intersection, approved the activation of the traffic signals at the intersection and it has been operational since January 2023.

Glen Waverley Sports Hub on-site construction

Over the summer of 2022-23, work steadily progressed on the new tennis centre/multisport pavilion development at Council’s  Glen Waverley Sports Hub.

The Golf Course pro-shop and facilities were relocated to temporary facilities next to the first tee while, following wet weather delays in November and December 2022, the temporary car park was completed. The original pro-shop, golf clubhouse and amenities block were then demolished.

The project continued to take shape over autumn and winter 2023.

Earth works, civil drainage and underground utilities were completed while construction and foundation works commenced for the tennis courts and multi-sport pavilion.

From July 2023 onwards, crushed rock for the tennis courts was imported and placed; the external light steel framework of the main pavilion was constructed and the roofing works commenced.

Heavy rain caused some delays to sub-base construction of the tennis courts, but the project remained on track and on budget throughout 2023 before being completed and open for play in March 2024.
