We’re thrilled to announce the event will now be held on a Saturday evening, rather than a Sunday evening - the result of listening to feedback from our community who told us this was a better time for families and children to celebrate.

So, grab your picnic rug and make your way to Jells Park on Saturday 2 December for a joyful celebration of the holiday season.

Event program

Festivities begin at 5.30pm with children's activities and pre-show entertainment including our talented locals, Oakleigh Primary School Choir.

The Main Concert gets underway at 7.30pm and features a stellar line-up including the Monash Carols Band (comprising the Monash Concert Band and Oakleigh Brass), The Carols All Star Band, and guest soloists.

There will be a special appearance by Santa and a spectacular fireworks finale, with the event concluding at 9.15pm.

Event day reminders

For accessibility, the event will have large screens, Auslan interpreters and is a live captioned event.
Our Carols Song Book will be available on the night via QR code.
Candles, glow novelties and a selection of drinks and snacks will be available for purchase throughout the evening.
The event is also a drug, smoke, and alcohol-free family-friendly event.
Bring a torch, comfortable shoes, picnic rug and warm clothes.
Please leave your four-legged friends at home as the fireworks can cause distress to animals. Parking is limited so plan your journey.

What should I pack?

Pack some warm and appropriate event essentials.

We recommend a torch poncho (just in case), closed shoes/gumboots, a fold up chair and blankie or some ground cover to keep your picnic rug dry!

Please note, there will be a designated picnic rug area to ensure visibility for all.

Do not bring beach/kids tents or marquees as they are not appropriate for this event.

Carols is situated in the scenic heart of Jells Park. It's important to be aware that the park is home to various wildlife, including snakes, so we reinforce wearing closed shoes.

Where can I park?

There is free limited parking/ accessible parking available at the below locations with an allocated drop off zone in Jells Central car park.

Jells Park, central car park - enter via the main entrance on Waverly Road.
Jells Park, Ferntree Gully Road car park - enter via Ferntree Gully Road (east bound).
Waverley Women's Sports Centre car park - enter via Waverley Road.
Accessible Parking is in Jells Park, central car park - enter via the main entrance on Waverly Road where you can speak with a car park attendant.

Seating

Fold up chairs can be used however, there is a designated "rugs only" zone for optimal visibility.

Please ensure that prams and chairs are positioned behind this marked area.

Food and beverage options

Experience a variety of delectable dishes this year with our diverse selection of food vendors.

From Greek souvlakis to Korean corndogs, hot jam donuts and fairy floss, we cater to all dietary preferences, including vegetarian and gluten-free options.

Whether you're looking for a quick snack or a satisfying meal, our vendors have something for everyone in the family.

A range of meals, snacks, ice cream are available for purchase (vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options).

Fireworks

Fireworks finale is scheduled to commence at 9pm (approximately 8 mins).

Please note that in the interest of public safety, the pathway that leads to the back of the stage area to the Jells Park, Ferntree Gull Rd car park will be closed to the public approximately 10 mins prior to the fireworks display and 10 mins after.

Once this area has been deemed safe, this pathway will be reopened for pedestrian access.

Fireworks display is weather permitting.

In the case of high winds and extreme weather including a declared day of Total Fire Ban, fireworks will not proceed.

Information Tent / Lost Children

Programs and general event information will be available here.

Parents/carers can visit the Information Tent to obtain a free child wristband to write down contact information in case they get separated.

This is a good practice to advise your family where to meet should you become separated.

First Aid

First aid will be located near the Information Tent and at the front of the Main Stage (close to the path).

Ticketing

This year Carols by Candlelight will be a FREE ticketed event. Free tickets will be made available for all attendees, and we encourage the community to confirm their attendance at our TryBooking event page to help us to ensure we deliver the best possible event for the community. Attendees will not have to show tickets upon entry.
