Asset Protection Permits

Our Asset Protection Department protects Council’s assets within the road reserve and Council reserve. To do this, the department issues permits that allow control over how building works and any other works are undertaken in these areas, and to protect things like footpaths, kerb and channel, vehicle crossings, pits, street trees, roads, drains and signs. Do I need a permit for asset protection?

Permits are required from Council for any construction that may affect Council-owned assets like footpaths, roads, drains and signs. Find out what works you will need a permit for, and what you might not need a permit for.

Asset Protection Permit

You will need an Asset Protection Permit if your works require a building permit, or if the works present a potential risk to Council assets. Find information here on fees, how to apply and permit conditions and expiry.

Service Authority Connection

Temporary Road Closures

A temporary road closure is approved for safety when a 3-metre clearance cannot be maintained.

Standard Drawings

The Civil Engineering Standard Drawings are updated from time to time as required and it is the responsibility of interested parties to regularly check and download any revised standard drawings to keep their copies current.

Stormwater Inspections

A Stormwater Connection Permit is required before connecting or making changes to Council’s drainage system. Stormwater inspections are required to ensure that this work is performed to the Council’s standards.

Legal Point of Discharge (LPOD)

As part of your Building Permit application you will need to obtain a ‘legal point of discharge report’ for your property.

Hoarding / Occupy Roadway

If you need to occupy part of a road, laneway, footpath, nature strip, car park, or road reserve, even for a short time, an Occupy Roadway Permit may be required.

Stormwater Connection Permit

A Stormwater Connection Permit is required before connecting or making changes to Council’s drainage system. This system includes underground drains, drainage pits, and kerb and channel.

Access through Reserves

An Access Through Reserves Permit is required for all circumstances where a property owner and/or their contractor require access to private property through an adjoining Council Reserve or Property for building works or similar.

Vehicle Crossing (driveways and crossovers)

A ‘vehicle crossing’ is the strip of your driveway that crosses the footpath and nature strip allowing vehicles to enter and exit your property.

Engineering Plan Checking Application

If you are undertaking building work, connecting to Council's drain or subdividing land, you may need to provide an engineering plan to be checked and approved by Council.

Skip Bin Permit

If you are placing a skip bin on Council's land, you will need a Skip Bin Permit, in accordance with “Local Law No.3 Community Amenity”.
