Privacy Statement

Monash Council regards as important the protection of its residents' and other customers' privacy and personal information. Council will do its best to protect this privacy and personal information in all dealings that it may have with you, in accordance with the principles set out in the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014(PDF, 1MB) (Governance: Privacy Policy).

You can visit pages on our site without giving us any information about yourself. But sometimes we do need information to provide services you request, and this privacy statement explains data collection and use in those situations.

Collection of Personal and Other Information

Website

Monash Council collects anonymous information, such as the IP address, date and timing of visits to the website and the pages of the website visited frequently. The information we collect is used for statistical purposes only to help us with website development and to improve our service. This is never linked with personal information about the users.

  • We collect and store your personal information, when you apply for a job using our online application.
  • We do not, under any circumstances, sell any information to other organisations.
  • We do not store personal information about you.
  • We will ask you when we need information that personally identifies you (for example, to allow us to contact you).

Newsletters and mailing lists

Council uses Mailchimp to send its electronic newsletters. Mailchimp is a company based in the USA. Council only provides Mailchimp with information that is necessary to enable the newsletters to be sent out. This information is held securely by Mailchimp on servers in the USA. Survey responses

SurveyMonkey may be used by Council to collect survey responses from members of the community. The data collected is stored securely by SurveyMonkey in the USA. Their privacy policy is available at SurveyMonkey: Privacy Policy.

Trybooking

There may be occasions where you are directed to Trybooking to register your attendance for a Council-run event. In such instances you will be directed to the Trybooking website. The information you provide to them will be managed in accordance with their privacy policy, which can be found at Trybooking: Privacy Policy.

Use of Collected Information

The personal information supplied in your submission that is collected by Monash Council will not be used/disclosed for any purpose other than the purpose of the submission you provide.

Council will not release or provide access to personal information to any other person or body, unless (a) it has been authorised to do so by the person to whom the information relates, (b) it is permitted or required to do so by law, or (c) it is appropriate or required in the performance of the functions of Council. If you refuse to supply the requested information we may not be able to process your request. Access to Information about You

You have the right to access and correct information about you. In most cases, requests for access will be administered through the Freedom of Information process.

Third Parties

We share information with companies providing information technology services and website usage analysis to Monash Council. That information is provided solely in the course of delivering their web service.

Control of your Personal Information

When you register, or otherwise give us personal information, Monash Council will not share that information with third parties without your permission, other than for the limited exceptions already listed. It will only be used for the purposes stated above.

Emails

If you send an email to Council, it will only be recorded to fulfill the purpose for which it is sent. Your details will not be added to a mailing list without your permission.
