Severe heatwave conditions are predicted for Melbourne from Saturday to Monday. Please visit the Bureau of Meteorology’s website: Forecast.

Extreme/high fire conditions have been declared for 9-11 March 2024. 

Saturday 9 March has been declared a day of Total Fire Ban in Melbourne. No fires can be lit or be allowed to remain alight in the open air until midnight. Read more: www.cfa.vic.gov.au (fire bans and restrictions).

Heat conditions like this can cause an increase in heat related illnesses in the community and bushfire risk if you live near bushland or reserves.

The Monash Recycling and Waste Centre may temporarily close during extreme weather conditions for staff and customer safety. Please check the Recycling and Waste Centre web page before your visit for updates on temporary closures.

During times of extreme heat, remember:

  • Drink more water
  • Never leave kids, adults or pets in cars
  • Keep cool
  • Check in on others
  • Plan ahead

Stay informed on hot, dry, windy days by checking emergency.vic.gov.au regularly and by downloading the VicEmergency app on your phone. If you find yourself in fire conditions, tune into ABC Radio Melbourne for up-to-date information.

Groups particularly vulnerable to the effects of hot weather include the elderly, young children, pregnant women, persons with a disability, and people with other medical issues. If you know anyone who falls into one of these categories, check on them during the hot weather to see if you can help.
