Media Response Coronavirus Monash Leader

Questions and Responses

Are people still able to shop at The Glen at the moment?

Does council have any advice to people who would usually shop at The Glen as far as any fears they might have around coronavirus?

Yes, it’s business as usual for The Glen, Kingsway and all of Monash.

We are encouraging our community to follow the latest advice of the government . Anyone who has recently travelled to the Hubei province of China, including Wuhan City should self-isolate for 14 days after leaving the Hubei province.

Adults should not attend work and children should not attend school, kindergarten or childcare.

The latest government advice clearly states people can go about their lives as normal and that includes eating out and shopping and supporting our local businesses. Victoria’s Chief Health Officer said earlier this week that people don’t need to avoid the Glen Waverley area.

However, it is important that everyone does what they can do to reduce the spread of the virus. Ensure you practice good hand hygiene by washing your hands after using the toilet and before eating, and use a tissue to cover your mouth when sneezing or coughing.

This is a rapidly changing situation and people should keep up-to-date with the latest information from the State Government, including the Department of Health and Human Services, who we are in regular contact with.

We will continue to monitor this issue and provide up to date information through our www.monash.vic.gov.au website.

Anyone who suspects they may have the coronavirus should call a dedicated hotline on 1800 675 398
