Council is proposing to name a road. The road is the laneway located between Batesford Road, Power Avenue and Tandara Court, Chadstone as shown bordered red in the image. The proposed name for the road is “Colwell Lane” (the Proposal).
The Proposal is needed to ensure the residences that use this road as their main access point are easily recognised by emergency services and other service deliveries.
“Colwell” refers to the family who owned this land from 1853 until the 1950s. More information can be found on p13 of Aboriginal links with the City of Monash(PDF, 3MB)
Council requests any family of the Colwells to contact Council to discuss the Proposal.
Members of the public can make a submission on the Proposal in writing to Council. Depending on community support, a subsequent report will be submitted to Council seeking endorsement of the Proposal.
