Monash Council is partnering with the Victorian Government to refurbish and extend Ashwood Memorial Kindergarten, adding a new 33-place kindergarten room.

As part of the Victorian Government’s funded kindergarten reforms for three- and four-year-old children, Ashwood Memorial Kindergarten was identified as a location that could provide more kindergarten places to meet local need.

The new room will be constructed on the vacant land next to the existing facility. The project also includes new amenities and an upgraded outdoor learning environment that will retain the existing landscape.

The Victorian Government is contributing $1.59 million and Council $1.91 million towards the $3.5 million project.

Construction on the site will start 10 January 2024, with the aim of having the building ready for service delivery in Term 4, 2024.

During the works, Ashwood Memorial Kindergarten programs will relocate to nearby Parkhill Primary School in Ashwood. 

Hours of construction will be in line with the Victorian Government’s Environmental Protection Agency noise control guidelines of 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday, and 7am to 1pm on Saturday. Quiet works may occur between 7am to 9am on Saturdays (when required).

Council awarded the tender to Simbuilt Pty Ltd at its November 2023 meeting.
