Street trees in Panoramic Grove, Glen Waverley
Our focus is on preserving trees that are healthy and creating additional planting in local parks and reserves to boost greenery.
We will only be removing and replacing those trees that are dead, dying (with a useful life expectancy of less than two years) or dangerous (they pose a risk to the community in the short term).
Street Tree Assessments
Our arborists have completed individual tree assessments based on the above criteria and in Panoramic Grove, we are proposing to remove 10 trees and will be planting a total of 26 trees which includes an additional 17 trees in vacant locations.
Replacement Tree Species
Council's arborists have proposed three appropriate tree species to be considered for planting. In some cases, we will need to select two complementary species to be planted on either side of the road to accommodate constraints such as power lines, service pits and other infrastructure that exists within the street.

Survey Results
Council sought feedback (reply paid mail survey and online below) on the preferred option of tree species directly affected residents would like to see planted in their street, until Friday 20 April 2018.
Your street has selected Option 1 - Koelreuteria paniculata “Golden Rain Tree” and Zelkova serrata “Green Vase”
In Panoramic Grove a total of 21 votes were received. 17 votes were registered for Option 1, while 3 and 1 votes were registered for Option 2 and Option 3 respectively.
The Koelreuteria paniculata “Golden Rain Tree” is an elegant, slow-growing small tree. The foliage turns bronze to gold in autumn. In summer the tree has chains of bright yellow flowers. This tree will be planted on the power line side.
The Zelkova serrata “Green Vase” is a deciduous tree with a distinctive bark that can flake and reveal additional colours and textures underneath and leaves that turn to a rusty-yellow in autumn. This tree will be planted on the non-power line side.
The works to remove the 10 trees identified in the plan and to plant 17 new trees will commence by June and be completed by September 2018.
Council will be responsible for the care of the new street trees for the first two years as they become established.
The trees will then become part of Council’s proactive annual maintenance program, where they will be checked and pruned if necessary as part of an annual program.

Koelreuteria paniculata - Golden Rain Tree
This is an elegant, slow-growing small tree. The foliage turns bronze to gold in autumn. In summer the tree has chains of bright yellow flowers followed by papery lantern type seed pods hanging from the tree in large clusters.

Zelkova serrata - Green Vase
'Green Vase' matures to a graceful, uniform V-shaped tree with a short trunk and upright branching.
In autumn the dark green leaves, held through spring and summer, turn to an array of colours ranging from soft yellows to orange and rusty reds..

Tristaniopsis laurina - Kanooka Gum
This native tree has a dense foliage canopy with glossy green leaves that are oblong shaped. Yellow flowers are borne in summer and are abundant with nectar attracting birds. Smooth creamy trunk streaked with grey.

Lophostemon confertus - Queensland Brush Box
This is a moderate to fast growing tree which displays thick, ovate, green, glossy foliage. Smooth beige coloured bark, which seasonally peels in flakes, reveals orange to brown tones in its bark. White flowers appear in summer.

Corymbia citriodora 'Scentuous' - Dwarf Lemon scented Gum
A beautiful native tree with a distinctive white to grey coloured shedding bark. Its leaves are green and long with a strong lemon fragrance when they are crushed. It has feathery white flowers in summer and autumn.

Corymbia maculata - Little Mac
This is a stately tree which grows straight and tall. The bark sheds in summer and is smooth and cream in colour with grey spots from the older bark, providing contrast and interest. The leaves are dark green and glossy and from autumn to winter, small clusters of fragrant white flowers appear attracting birds and honey bees.
